A Taste of Aragón
We want to show you an unspoiled part of Spain, up north in the Central Pyrenees where a spectacular landscape merges with a rich history and wonderful food. During the week we will explore the food industry of the area, and we will hunt for mushrooms with a local expert to discover the real taste of this enchanting corner of Spain.

1 The taste of the countryside

Our base for exploring the area during the first part of the trip will be the charming little village of Ayerbe with accommodation in Hotel Villa de Ayerbe (http://www.hotelayerbe.com).

The focal point of the trip will be Ayerbe’s mushrooms fair on Saturday 27th. We will collect mushrooms with an expert, explore the fair and cook and eat our bounty.
In Ayerbe we will visit local food producers: a craft butcher, a delicatessen which specialises in mushrooms, truffles, cheeses and wines and a producer of deliciously rich local honey.

We will visit the spectacular medieval castle of Loarre, and a small business nearby which specialises in almond and hazelnuts products.
-Sierra de Guara and its cheese
This area is reviving traditional cheesemaking skills creating innovative and tasty new products, like Radiquero Goat’s cheese and Villa Villera soft cheeses.

We cannot leave the area without a visit to one of the majestic Pyrenean valleys, so we will treat ourselves to a hearty traditional breakfast in Tramacastilla (Tena Valley)

Afterwards, we’ll explore the medieval city of Jaca (the first capital of the Kingdom of Aragon), a vibrant and captivating town at the end of the Canfranc Valley.
There we will visit Echeto, a “pasteleria” where distinctive pastries have been lovingly created for more than a century. Wonderful sweets in a beautiful shop, just in front of the Cathedral.
