Language Camps
This is our pet project and there will be several camps during the year both in Northern Ireland and Spain.
Halloween camp:
At the end of October we will organise a camp in the North Coast area of Northen Ireland, with activities in Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine. There we will explore the culture and traditions of the area and improve English pronunciation and conversatio
n skills. Students will be able to enjoy a wide range of activities such as golf, surfing, watching a hurling match or soaking up the atmosphere at Derry’s annual Halloween festival. They will also have lots of opportunities to stroll (or hike!) in the North Coast’s enchanting landscape.
In the evenings, Guinness, lively pubs and Irish music will provide the opportunity to interact and relax.
Spring camp:
There will also be a spring camp in the same area during Easter 2017.
Here we will have the opportunity to explore the beautiful Irish spring season, surf the waves and explore other sports and cultural activities.
In summer, our camps will be based in the Spanish village of Biscarrués, a small but vibrant comunity in the Hoya de Huesca. In the same classroom, English
and Spanish speakers will share language learning and practice with each other, under the guidance of their two tutors. Each student will have two learning partners with whom to practice the skills acquired in the classes while enjoying life in a Spanish village.
The village, Biscarrués, is situated in the beautiful “Hoya de Huesca”, a land of sweeping panoramas which nestles beside the foothills of the spectacular Pyrenees mountain range. The history of the area is as dramatic its landscapes; it was here that Roman legions fought bloody battles against fierce local tribes and it was here that the formidable Kingdom of Aragon emerged to become a powerful force in Europe and beyond. The area has its own distinctive architecture, customs and cuisine, and is blessedly unspoiled by tourism.
The language camps will run throughout July 2017 in two groups:
Explorers:
This group gives students a great insight into the rich culture and life of a rural Spanish community. 3½ hours of tuition will be delivered in the morning, and in the afternoon there will be excursions to different food industries such as Bodega Edra, (a winer
y), Villa Villera (a small cheese and yogurt manufacturer), La Cooperativa de Santa Leticia (olive oil producer).
We will explore nearby Ayerbe and its locally owned shops and carry out our own market research in Zaragoza’s vibrant central market. Visits to the majestic Castle of Loarre, historic Zaragoza and the towering Pyrenees will be highlights of this fascinating fortnight.
Prices: all included (classes, activities and full board accommodation in local hostal): £585
classes and activities: £235
classes: £160
Adventurers:
This group will combine language tuition and adventure sports. The Gallego river runs through a jaw-dropping landscape, and the hair-raising gorges and ravines that it has carved over millions of years make it the ideal location for white-water rafting and canyoning.
Local adventure sport specialists, Locura de Vida, will organise high-adrenaline activities in the mornings, and 3½ hours of language tuition will be delivered in the afternoon.Classes in this second
group will cover topics and structures from the syllabus of GCSE and A level Spanish, and will be ideally suited to KS4 students.
Prices: all included (classes, activities and full board accommodation in local hostal): £750
classes and activities: £475
classes: £235
A full programme of activities will be available at the end of
May 2017, so keep following us.
As the weather in Spain can be very hot in July, free access to the village swimming pool is also included.
The accommodation included is in Locura de Vida’s own hostel, but upgrades to local hotels or ‘casas de turismo rural’ (self-catering rural houses) can be arranged on request. N.B. Upgrades are not included in the package price and will incur an additional cost.
Group sizes will be small (between 7 and 10 students of each language), so if you are interested, make sure you make a reservation soon.
