1 The taste of the countryside
Our base for exploring the area during the first part of the trip will be the charming little village of Ayerbe with accommodation in Hotel Villa de Ayerbe (http://www.hotelayerbe.com).
– Ayerbe and its food
The focal point of the trip will be Ayerbe’s mushrooms fair on Saturday 27th. We will collect mushrooms with an expert, explore the fair and cook and eat our bounty.
In Ayerbe we will visit local food producers: a craft butcher, a delicatessen which specialises in mushrooms, truffles, cheeses and wines and a producer of deliciously rich local honey.
-Loarre, castle and almonds
We will visit the spectacular medieval castle of Loarre, and a small business nearby which specialises in almond and hazelnuts products.
-Sierra de Guara and its cheese
This area is reviving traditional cheesemaking skills creating innovative and tasty new products, like Radiquero Goat’s cheese and Villa Villera soft cheeses.
-Tena Valley, Tramacastilla y “migas”
We cannot leave the area without a visit to one of the majestic Pyrenean valleys, so we will treat ourselves to a hearty traditional breakfast in Tramacastilla (Tena Valley)
-Jaca and its pastries
Afterwards, we’ll explore the medieval city of Jaca (the first capital of the Kingdom of Aragon), a vibrant and captivating town at the end of the Canfranc Valley.
There we will visit Echeto, a “pasteleria” where distinctive pastries have been lovingly created for more than a century. Wonderful sweets in a beautiful shop, just in front of the Cathedral.
This area has sumptuous wines and we will visit two outstanding local vineyards: Edra (http://www.bodegaedra.com) y
2 The taste of the city
From Ayerbe we will move to Zaragoza to sample its heavenly tapas, visit its most remarkable heritage sites and enjoy its bustle and style.
We’ll have our last day in Madrid. There, it will be plenty of choice to explore the aspect of the city it intersts us the most. From museums to parks, from palaces to bars.
